Living Their Legacy is a youth empowerment and education organization established to promote learning, self-esteem and self-worth for young women of color by highlighting the achievements and contributions of unsung historical women. The organization also fosters a space to analyze how women of color are portrayed in American history.
Launching in 2017, Living Their Legacy seeks to build the self-esteem and self-worth of young women of color by educating them on the multitude of past contributions of women to American culture. Our goal at LTL is to instill a sense of pride and honor in young women by offering them positive images and examples of women that they can self-identify with that are often excluded from school curriculums and media. LTL enriches the lives of girls aged 14 to 18 years old via weekend workshops and a 2-month long, weekly intensive summer camp. Each workshop is centered around an outstanding woman of color and brings their achievements into context of dealing with modern issues related culture, self-acceptance, respect, identity and esteem.
